Three Keys to Ensuring Business Continuity
Network outages, viruses, power failures and other barriers to effective business communication happen. Not only do they impact your productivity and profit, but they are so sporadic and spontaneous that you can’t predict and prevent them all. But what you can do is prepare.
Three critical points of contact that are important to prepare and protect include your business phone system, internet connectivity and bandwidth capacity. Without these, current and potential customers, partners and other outside contacts can’t reach you and, even worse, you have no control over how they react.
Given that these touch points are so important to how your business communicates, here are a few ways to ensure that you’re never left without them:
Phone System
Though many tend to rely on email nowadays, telephone use is far from dead. It’s still considered one of the lifelines of business, which is why we all use it.
One of the ways to keep this lifeline running when an outage occurs is to utilize a data center/co-location facility, a fortress of sorts that has various internet connections and back-up power sources.
There are two ways you can utilize such a facility: either by putting your hardware solely at the facility, or at both the facility and your location, which is known as co-location.
By putting at least part of your phone system’s physical hardware at an off-site location, you’re using that center’s redundancy to ensure your mission-critical functions in the event that your office experiences a power outage, network failure, or other disaster. Read more...
Internet Connectivity
Not only are remote workers and email dependant on Internet, but, with voice now being delivered over the Internet (VoIP), ensuring continuous uptime is more critical than ever.
To prevent you from ever losing connectivity, ETA has developed Internet Uptime PoweredUp!TM, which keeps your Internet connection up and running by transparently combining multiple Internet links (T1, DSL, Cable, 3G Wireless, etc.) to aggregate bandwidth, load balance and provide automatic failover across all connections for both outbound and inbound traffic. Bandwidth Capacity
Just as having Internet connectivity is important, so is the amount of data you can transfer over it. One way to ensure your bandwidth capacity is with SIP Trunking.
The benefit of SIP Trunking is not just that you can replace traditional PSTN lines with an IP phone system or that you can enjoy significant cost savings because of dynamic scalability and compatibility with existing telephone systems. The benefit also lies in the fact that SIP Trunking drastically simplifies your network with a single connection for voice and data, causing you to only have to back up one system, rather than two. Of course these aren’t the only ways to ensure your business continuity, but they’re important to consider when designing a complete solution. At ETA, that's exactly what we do. Solution Spotlight:
Hosted PBX
The three types of business phone system – Hosted, Managed and Premise-based – each have different infrastructures, benefits and supplemental considerations to take into account, which can make it difficult to decide on one versus the other when trying to choose a phone system for your business.
To provide some clarity, let’s take a look at the first of the three models: Hosted PBX.
Hosted PBX, or Hosted VoIP (Voice over IP), is the business phone system in which the server resides in the provider’s data center rather than in your office. The provider, for all intents and purposes, is “hosting” the system’s infrastructure for you, preventing you from having to deal with the expense and hassle of buying and maintaining your own phone system.
Since the system itself is offsite, Hosted PBX offers Web-based system administration, allowing you to easily manage the system online, where you can define how you want calls to flow, view call detail records and billing information, and more.
Though Hosted PBX is a cost-effective way for small businesses to get VoIP functionality and does scale easily, when thinking about Hosted, you must also consider that system improvements and upgrades are performed on the provider's schedule. In addition, it is important to not that upfront costs can range depending on the level of VoIP infrastructure needed and the phones that need to be purchased.

ETA Employees Volunteer with Philabundance to Help Fight Hunger
From left to right:
Tony Rossi - Director of Sales; Heather's son Cameron
Christopher; Chris Aldred - Marketing Programs Manager; and
Heather Pearson - Sales Engineer.
On Tuesday, September 21, a group of ETA employees spent the evening helping Philabundance, the region's largest hunger relief organization, sort food donations to prepare for distribution to local pantries.
Though Philabundance handles food of all kinds, the evening revolved mostly around tomatoes: hundreds and hundreds of tomatoes! The ETA volunteers sorted the good from the bad, put approved tomatoes in bags for local food pantries and even had a good time doing it. Click here to see more pictures of the ETA volunteers working hard at Philabundance.
Philabundance's mission is to end hunger and malnutrition in the Delaware Valley by acquiring food and distributing it through organizations serving people in need. It relies on more than 60% of support from volunteer services to help feed our hungry Delaware Valley neighbors. ETA Rides City to Shore to Help Fight MS

For
the fifth year in a row, ETA participated in the National MS Society’s
Bike MS: City to Shore Ride, an annual cycling event that raises money
to support multiple sclerosis research and programs.
For this year’s ride, which was held on Saturday, September 25, and Sunday, September 26, Team ETA set a goal of raising $3,000. This year’s team — Heather Pearson, Romeo Cochrane, Patty Cruice, Sharon Holloman, and Julie Odell — raised even more than they set out to attain, collecting $3,670! Some even came from customers and partners, so thanks to those who contributed!
Team captain and veteran rider Heather Pearson led Team ETA through the 75-mile course that traverses the flat terrain of the blueberry fields in Hammonton, the South New Jersey pine barrens and historic Ocean City.
With the help of riders and volunteers everywhere, this year’s ride, which marked the 30th anniversary of City to Shore, raised almost $5 million. And the fundraising is still going!
Next year’s ride is on Saturday, September 24, and Sunday, September 25. Hope to see you there!
