On March 7th, ETA’s team of volunteers read The Lorax to the students of James Dobson Elementary School in Manayunk.

Philadelphia Reads Day marks the Philadelphia area’s observance of Read Across America, which celebrates the March 2nd birthday and legacy of Theodore Geisel (better known as Dr. Seuss) by spreading the word about the fun and significance of reading. Read Across America was started in March of 1998 by the National Education Association as a way to celebrate reading.

At the local level, Philadelphia Reads Day is operated by Philadelphia Reads, a nonprofit supporting children’s literacy in Philadelphia. The mission of Philadelphia Reads is to strengthen the literacy skills of Philadelphia’s youngest and neediest school children by providing mentors and resources for in-school and out-of-school programs.
